FAQ & Usage Guide
What is MapleDress?
MapleDress is a character outfit composer for MapleStory Universe (MSU). It lets you layer individual equipment pieces on top of a base character sprite to preview full outfits before buying on the marketplace.
This is an unofficial fan-made tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with MapleStory Universe or Nexon in any way. It was built out of love for the game and the community. All item assets belong to their respective owners.
How does the outfit preview work?
Each item preview is built by comparing the character sprite shown on the MSU marketplace against a clean base sprite, then extracting only the pixels that changed. Those difference layers are then stacked together to compose your outfit.
Because we rely solely on sprites already visible on the marketplace — rather than pulling assets directly from the game — the result may not be 100% accurate. Some items can overlap or overwrite each other on the canvas. This is most noticeable when combining hair, hats, and face or eye accessories, since those layers share the same area of the character.
We made this choice intentionally to stay respectful of MSU's terms and conditions and to avoid any form of data extraction from the game. We hope to improve accuracy in the future, and we'd love to work more closely with the MSU team if they ever open up official asset access to fan projects like this one. 💜
How do I add an item?
- Go to the MSU marketplace and open any NFT item page.
- Copy the URL (e.g.
https://msu.io/marketplace/nft/12345). - Paste it into the search bar at the top of the editor and press Process or Enter.
- The item will automatically be placed in the correct equipment slot.
What is “Stalk a Wallet”?
Enter a wallet address to browse all characters owned by that wallet. Click a character card to select it, then press Fashion! to automatically load all of that character's mintable equipped items into the editor.
Random outfit characters
On wide screens, you'll see 8 small characters appear in the left and right sidebars a couple of seconds after the page loads. Each one is a randomly composed outfit drawn from a curated item pool combined with your own search history.
Every outfit always includes hair, a face, and a weapon. Accessories like hats, eye accessories, ear accessories, face accessories, shoes, gloves, and capes are added randomly. The body slot may use a full outfit piece or a separate top and bottom.
Hover over any sidebar character and click Fashion! to load that outfit into the editor instantly. All slots are filled just as if you had processed each item yourself — you can then tweak individual pieces or hit Download right away.
Outfit vs Top + Bottom
Loading an outfit item automatically occupies the top slot and disables the bottom slot, since outfits cover both. Loading a bottom item later will clear the outfit.
Buy it now!
Each slot with a loaded marketplace item shows a Buy it now! button. Clicking it opens a pre-filtered MSU marketplace search for that item sorted by lowest price.
Canvas size
The canvas renders internally at 180×180px (native MapleStory sprite size) and is always displayed at 360×360px with pixel-perfect scaling. The downloaded PNG is 180×180px.
